Woodbridge Middle School recognized National Suicide Prevention Week, September 6–12, with activities focused on kindness, connection, awareness, and making sure students know where to turn when they or someone they know needs help.
Throughout the week, informational posters were displayed around the school to help students recognize signs that someone may be struggling and identify trusted support resources.
During lunches, students participated in a special “You Matter” activity outside the cafeteria. Students received lime green ribbons and were encouraged to pledge to be a supportive friend and help build a caring community at WMS. Students also watched a short video about recognizing warning signs, asking for help, and supporting peers. Staff members joined students in the activity, reinforcing the message that no Blue Raider has to face a difficult time alone.
The ribbons collected during the week will be displayed near the counseling office in the shape of a tree, creating a visual reminder of the WMS community’s commitment to supporting one another.
Students also helped share daily messages during morning announcements, emphasizing hope, kindness, and the importance of seeking help. Ms. Donaldson also shared a special message reminding students that they matter and that caring adults are available to listen and provide support.
Throughout the week, one message remained at the heart of the activities: You matter, help is available, and kindness can make a difference.
