Woodbridge High School junior Daisy Lopez turned her interest in political science and social justice into meaningful, real-world experience through Delaware Technical Community College’s Upward Bound program.
Through Upward Bound, Daisy participated in a paid six-week work-study experience with the Nanticoke River Watershed Conservancy. The opportunity allowed her to gain valuable professional experience while exploring issues that connected with her academic interests and future goals.
As part of her experience, Daisy learned more about environmental stewardship, community advocacy, and the ways public policy can impact Delaware communities. In March, as part of Open Space Day, she will have the opportunity to present at Delaware’s Legislative Hall, where she will share what she learned during her six-week experience and discuss its impact on local communities. She will also connect her work to the importance of preserving open space through Delaware legislation.
