Four outstanding students represented the newly forming Sussex County Youth Coalition Against Substance Misuse during Prevention Day at Legislative Hall in Dover yesterday. Students Kaylee Gillespie, Daisy Lopez, Abagail Vazquez, and Aida Velasquez Perez proudly attended the event and helped bring awareness to the importance of youth involvement in substance misuse prevention efforts across Delaware.
As part of the day’s activities, Daisy Lopez was invited to speak on behalf of the group in both the Senate and House Chambers, sharing the coalition’s mission and the importance of empowering young people to take an active role in creating healthier communities.
The students’ participation marks an exciting step forward in the development of a strong Sussex County Youth Coalition focused on substance misuse prevention. Through the support of community organizations and leaders, including Scott Michael of The Cause, the coalition is gaining momentum and creating opportunities for youth voices to be heard at the state level.
