Delaware’s literary community came together in a remarkable way during this year’s Festival of Words. Bringing together authors, educators, organizations, and readers of all ages, the festival highlighted the power of storytelling, education, and personal connection.
“Never before has such a diverse representation of the literacy community occurred, in one day, one event, in Delaware,” organizers shared following the event. “This is only the beginning.”
The festival featured nationally recognized names in literacy and children’s literature, including Malinda Lo, Jarrett J. Krosoczka, Marc Tyler Nobleman, and Kelly Lidji. Their presentations and workshops inspired attendees while emphasizing the importance of reading, creativity, and youth engagement.
In addition to celebrating literature, the event also connected with young people through the 1st Sussex County Substance Misuse Summit, showing how literacy and community outreach can work together to positively influence youth.
Organizers noted that the true impact of the Festival of Words goes far beyond attendance numbers. Many participants shared personal stories about how deeply they were touched by the speakers, workshops, and organizations represented throughout the day.
Additional highlights, stories, and reflections from this year’s Festival of Words will continue to be shared through the Delaware Youth Librarians initiative at Delaware Youth Librarians
