The Woodbridge School District proudly celebrated a memorable day on April 24 as students participated in the Delaware Special Olympics Unified Soccer competition for the first time. Competing with determination, teamwork, and school spirit, Woodbridge teams brought home both a gold medal and a bronze medal in their debut appearance.
The outstanding achievement marks an exciting milestone for the district’s Unified Sports program, which promotes inclusion by bringing together students of all abilities through athletic competition. Coaches, staff, families, and supporters cheered on the athletes as they represented Woodbridge with pride.
The Gold Medal Team included Steven Sharpnack, Manny Delgado, Alex Miller, Kyle Block, Trenton West, Cale Hudson, and Can Anthony. Their teamwork and perseverance led them to a first-place finish in an impressive performance.
The Bronze Medal Team featured A’Ryiah Johnson, Gigi Delgado, Jaresiah Nelson-Townes, Jaden Minor, Jada Plummer, and Aubrey Jones. The team competed with heart and determination, earning a well-deserved third-place finish.
As this was Woodbridge’s first time competing in Delaware Special Olympics Unified Soccer, the success of both teams is a tremendous accomplishment. The district congratulates all of the athletes for their hard work, sportsmanship, and dedication in making this inaugural competition one to remember.
