On March 12, several local students attended the DLA Legislative Action Day in Dover to advocate for school and public library funding and legislation.
Students participating in the event included Luke Hurst, Nex Johnson, Daniel Limon-Gutierrez, Sophia Leon Leon, Daisy Lopez, Alahna Nichols, Chelsea Schmidt, Emely Velasquez and Emerson Wright.
During the visit, students attended a literacy proclamation signing with the governor at noon in his Legislative Hall office.
Later in the afternoon, the Delaware House and Senate introduced joint resolutions recognizing the 125th anniversary of Delaware libraries. Several students were acknowledged for their attendance, with three recognized in each chamber.
The House of Representatives also provided two minutes for remarks, giving a student the opportunity to address lawmakers about the importance of literacy and libraries. Students from Woodbridge High School and other schools represented literacy during the session.
