🏀💙 So Proud of Our PWES Staff Basketball Team! 💙🏀 We are incredibly proud of our PWES staff basketball team who gave it their all at Friday night’s game! While they may have fallen to the WHS team, they truly left it all on the court and represented PWES with heart, effort, and teamwork. And let’s talk about that crowd… if there was an award for the loudest cheering section, PWES would have won by a landslide! 📣👏 Thank you to everyone who came out to support and to our staff for showing up and giving it their best. What a fun night for our school community! 💙

This week, members of the Delaware Department of Education visited Phillis Wheatley Elementary School to recognize our school bus drivers and aides as part of NAPT Love the Bus Month. 🚌💙 During the visit, our drivers and aides were recognized for the incredible impact they have on students across our entire district, sharing the message that, "The yellow bus is more than just a mode of transportation; it is a symbol of community, safety, and opportunity.” We are grateful that the DOE chose PWES and the Woodbridge School District as the location to present these certificates, and we extend a heartfelt thank you to all of our Woodbridge School District bus drivers and aides for the important role they play in the lives of our students every single day. Your dedication helps ensure our students arrive at school safely and ready to learn! 👏🚌💙🩶🤍

Dr. Ilona Holland, author and former Harvard professor, visited Phillis Wheatley Elementary School to share about her writing process and the research she conducted while working on her newest book about George Washington. Students loved hearing how authors turn ideas and historical research into engaging stories. It was a great opportunity to inspire our young readers and writers! A very special thank you to Rachel Parker and The Parker Groupr sponsoring this event for our students. Their generosity also provided a copy of the book for each of our teachers’ classroom libraries as well as our school library, helping to bring even more great reading opportunities to our students. We are so grateful for partners who support literacy and learning at PWES! 💙📚👏

This week we celebrate School Social Worker Appreciation Week, and we want to give a huge thank you to two incredible professionals who support our students and families every day at Phillis Wheatley Elementary School. 💙 Mrs. Ritter, our DSCYF Family Crisis Therapist, and Ms. Nunez, our District Social Worker, work tirelessly to support the social, emotional, and family needs of our students. From providing guidance during difficult times, to connecting families with resources, to helping students build the skills they need to be successful in and out of the classroom—their impact is felt throughout our entire school community. We are so grateful for the compassion, dedication, and care they show to our students and families each and every day. Thank you, Mrs. Ritter and Ms. Nunez, for all that you do! 👏💙

🎉📚 Congratulations to our February Attendance Winners! 📚🎉 We are so proud of our students who made attendance a priority in February! Each month, students who have 90% or better attendance are entered into a drawing, and our winners are randomly selected from that group to receive a special token to our Book Vending Machine! There is nothing better than watching students “shop” for a brand-new book of their choice. 📖✨ Showing up matters, and these students are proving it! Way to go, February winners — we are proud of you! 👏💙

Our students absolutely crushed our Boosterthon fundraiser, and this week they celebrated in the best (and slimiest) way possible! 🟢🎉 Thanks to the incredible support of our families and community, Phillis Wheatley Elementary School raised over $17,000 to help reduce the cost of end-of-year field trips for our students. What an amazing accomplishment! As part of their reward, students earned the chance to slime Mr. Huber, Dr. Lybarger, and Mr. Pearson. But our Raiders didn’t just meet the goal—they exceeded it! Because of that, they unlocked the chance to slime three additional staff members: Mr. Starkey, Ms. Jones, and Mrs. Sears. The honor of doing the sliming went to our top six student fundraisers: Hannah, Ryan, Reese, Nicholas, Hayden, and Leo. They did an amazing job representing our school and definitely made the moment memorable! Thank you again to everyone who supported this fundraiser and helped make it such a success.🤍🩶💙

Our Respect Week is off to a fantastic start at Phillis Wheatley Elementary! 💙 On Monday, we kicked things off by celebrating inclusion at our Respect Week Pep Rally. Mrs. Raymond and our Project Unify Ambassadors shared powerful messages about why they choose to include others and helped introduce the exciting events planned for the week. Students also enjoyed a few fun games that highlighted our Special Olympics sports, giving everyone a chance to see teamwork and inclusion in action! We also learned that Mr. Barnes will be going Over the Edge for Special Olympics this year! On Tuesday, we celebrated Be You Day, where students and staff dressed in ways that represented who they are. It was wonderful to see so many unique personalities and styles shining throughout the building! Today, we continued spreading the message of inclusion by wearing our “Inclusion – The Bridge That Unites Us” t-shirts. Seeing our school community come together to support this important message has been incredible. We are so proud of our students and staff for embracing kindness, respect, and inclusion this week. 💙 #RespectWeek #ChooseInclusion #ProjectUnify
