Phillis Wheatley Elementary School would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Ryan Stafford of Stafford Property Services for generously donating his time and providing a free power-washing service for the school’s Secret Garden.
The Secret Garden was designed by the PWES Conservation Club and built by volunteers in 2013. Over the years, dirt and algae had accumulated throughout the space. Ryan’s work made an incredible difference, restoring the garden’s walls, sidewalks, bench, and fountain to look like new.
The transformation is especially impressive in the before-and-after photos, and PWES is excited to once again have this beautiful outdoor space available for students and staff to enjoy.
We are grateful to Ryan for his time, generosity, and support as we work to revive and care for our school gardens. His contribution is a wonderful example of the community partnerships that help make Woodbridge Built Blue.
Anyone interested in supporting the PWES Conservation Club and its garden projects is encouraged to contact Mrs. Pam Vanderwende at pam.vanderwende@wsd.k12.de.us.

Happy National Speech-Language Pathologist Day to our amazing SLP, Mrs. Gravelle! 🗣️💙
Today we celebrate the incredible impact Mrs. Gravelle makes each and every day at PWES. Through her patience, compassion, and dedication, she helps our students find their voices, build confidence, and strengthen the communication skills they need to succeed both inside and outside of the classroom.
Whether she is helping students master sounds, improve language skills, or simply encouraging them to believe in themselves, Mrs. Gravelle does it all with kindness and care. We are so grateful for the positive difference she makes in the lives of our Blue Raiders every single day!

🎉📚 Congratulations to our April Attendance Winners! 📚🎉
We are so proud of our students who made attendance a priority in April! Each month, students who have 90% or better attendance are entered into a drawing, and our winners are randomly selected from that group to receive a special token to our Book Vending Machine! There is nothing better than watching students “shop” for a brand-new book of their choice.
📖✨ Showing up matters, and these students are proving it! Way to go, April winners — we are proud of you! 👏💙

🏃♀️💙 Our Girls on the Run team wrapped up another fantastic season by participating in their Spring 5K in Georgetown on April 26th! We are so proud of all of our runners for their hard work, dedication, perseverance, and positive attitudes throughout the season. Crossing that finish line was an amazing accomplishment and a celebration of all they learned together about confidence, teamwork, goal setting, and believing in themselves! 🎉
In addition to training for the 5K, our team also completed their Spring community service project by collecting donations for the Feral Feline Society. 🐾 Through their efforts, our students learned the importance of giving back, showing compassion, and helping others in our community — even our furry friends!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Girls on the Run team this season and helped make this experience so meaningful for our students. We are incredibly proud of these girls and allthey accomplished this spring! 💙🩶🤍
