Teachers at Phillis Wheatley Elementary School and Woodbridge Early Childhood Education Center are continuing to strengthen math instruction as they begin their second year using the Bridges in Mathematics curriculum.
To prepare for the school year and build upon their first year of implementation, teachers participated in a Bridges Lead Workshop and back-to-school training. These professional learning opportunities provided educators with additional tools and strategies to effectively use the curriculum in their classrooms.
Bridges in Mathematics is a comprehensive elementary math program focused on helping students develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts. Through hands-on activities, problem-solving, discussion, visual models, games, and real-world connections, students are encouraged to explore different strategies and explain their mathematical thinking rather than simply memorize procedures.
The curriculum also provides opportunities for practice and differentiation, allowing teachers to meet students at varying levels of understanding.
As PWES and WECEC enter year two of Bridges, teachers are continuing to build their knowledge of the program while creating engaging learning experiences that help our youngest Blue Raiders develop strong math skills and confidence.
