The U.S. Postal Service recently honored Phillis Wheatley, the first author of African descent in the American Colonies to publish a book, with the 49th stamp in its Black Heritage Series. In recognition of this meaningful tribute, our local postmaster visited Phillis Wheatley Elementary and presented the school with a pane of commemorative stamps — a special moment of pride and connection to our school’s namesake and her lasting legacy.
